Major Campaign Issues for Democrats

Major Campaign Issues for Democrats

I think the Democrats ought to come up with 4 or 5 solid compaign issues for the coming elections of 2006 and 2008. Twenty or thirty issues are too many as they dilute the emphasis on the really key issuses. Here are 3 issues that I think should be considered:

1. Set of goal of energy independence by 2020 using renewable energy only. It's doable and will create a lot of jobs. This is going to be necessary because if China and India start using oil as the same per capita rate as the US, there won't be enough oil to go around. Instead of oil at $3 a gallon, think $10 or $20.

2. Universal health care by 2010.

3. A more equal distribution of wealth. A tax of 1% on all wealth greater than $1 million would bring in about $226 billion (or more). (The first million of wealth would be exempt.)
